This stump was a veritable metropolis of life. This is just one narrow view but there were mushrooms and other fungi all other this. Didn't get a very satisfying shot of the "whole town" so this little colony is it. Taken in the Cache River State Natural Area in Johnson Co., Illinois. Thanks for looking and your comments are always appreciated.

neat composition, great basckground, but I think the foreground clump on the left is either OOF or the whole shot needs some USM.
I like your little city of mushrooms.

I like that you used the word "metropolis" - it fits! I always used to walk by stuff like mushrooms, now I think they're cool and would love to get photos of some.

The background, with strong up/down lines, is really nice here. I am trying to evaluate if I would like another composition more, but can't come up with anything. Great job spotting this miniature city. :)

Hi Mary. I love this image. The feeling of life springing from decay is so strong here. I also think this looks like a miniature castle. :)

Mary, this is wonderful! I think you have a good eye to compose it this way. Very nice, and refreshing too.

I agree with Laura, this does look like a fairytale castle Mary. Great perspective on this one and very nice image.

The vertical lines are wonderful- the foreground and background blend together so nicely.

Perhaps a bit more room on the bottom? Not sure what you had to work with down there- it might have just been the gutter...

I like the gradual descending and shallower DOF here which makes for a pleasing comp. I think you could possibly crop a bit off the top and also soften the one sharp hexagon.

Neat shot; looks like part of the kingdom of elves. The suggestion of tall trees in the BG is good for this stump was, no doubt, once a tall tree, too. The impression of a full life cycle is given by the stump and mushrooms.
