Phyllopalpus pulchellus - "handsome mouth feeler"
I was surprised to hear this fellow singing last weekend at my local marsh. These guys are about 1.2cm long and are always on the move. It took some doing to find green leaves to place him on. There seemed to be something on the leaves, fungi I'd guess, that he enjoyed eating. Here he was between meals and looked right at the camera. I think that this shot certainly captures his personality.
EOS 1Ds, 180 mm macro at f/29, 1/125 sec, ISO 200, using two flash units with diffusers. In PS, levels, USM and a slight crop.
Comments welcome,

Excellent insect shot, Wil, really showing great detail. Nice choice to place him in all-green surroundings.

I like the pose. The colors really work well togther also.

It seems odd the way that its standing on its legs- more on the rear part of the tarsi than on the tips. I guess he won't make it into the insect ballet.

Tim,
That is an interesting observation. I too noticed this and I have found that the photos that I have of another species of trig show this same "toes up" posture. I have seen this with a few other orthopterans as well. I will post another image showing this behavior shortly.

I'm not really into the "bug" thing but this is a nice shot Wil.
