This was taken in September during a nature walk near a NY lake. I find the OOF green leaf distracting, but am not sure I could have done anything differently. Your comments and critiques are welcomed.

Nikon 4300 F4.9, 1/120sec., ISO100, no filters

Thanks,

ethan

Funny, because I would have been tempted to clean away all the grass for a "clean" shot but I think this is more real to nature in that it's pushing up through the vegetation. Was this a handheld shot? There's a lot of detail in the mushroom that's pretty cool, and again I like your composition placing the subject on the left. Might be a touch tight in the frame, though, but you did leave some room for the "virtual roots". :D

I like the way the grasses and pine needles(?) are wrapped around this mushroom. Good eye to find this one and a good result too! I might be tempted to add a little contrast, but an otherwise very nice picture. :D

It's a nice shot. What this image needs to really make it sing is to use a polarizer to take that shiny reflection off the closest part of the mushroom and thereby saturate the colors a bit.

I like all the grass on the mushroom. Might be a bit tight in the frame.

It looks like a pale Amonita Muscaria. There is an interesting story about this, which I will not relate in detail. They are poisonous, but some people (olden times, Eastern Russia) developed an immunity to the toxin, their kidneys then allow the halucinogens in to the urine, you can guess the rest. This is well documented from the literature. I thought someone might find it interesting.

This is very unique...I like the grass laying over the mushroom.

I like how the mushroom is 'hidden' by the grasses. Well seen. A bit tight on top for my tastes.
