I've been peeking in on this wonderful site since the very beginning, and have truly enjoyed many of the image posts in the various NSN forums. What a treat!

This photo was taken in early May while vacationing with my wife. Comments and critiques are welcomed!

Nikon CP4300 F2.8, ISO100, 1/454sec.(!), no filters

Thanks,

ethan

Hi Ethan and welcome to NatureScapes! This is a very nice first post and this shed looks awfully familiar...I like the balance of the composition here.

1/454 of a second was just the ticket ;)

Thanks for sharing and I am looking forward to seeing more of your work!

Hi, ethan, glad to see you posting! What I find most striking about this image is your composition. The shed is all the way over on the left, and the beautiful spring greenery is filling the space on the right. I also like the dimension provided by you not being on exactly the same plane as the shed (seems like you were looking up at it).

In some cases the bright sky showing through the treetops might not be favorable, but it seems to work here, showing that the shed is not in dense woods. Your exposure for the scene seems very good, you "gave up" some of the whites in the sky for detail in the darker wood of the building. A good choice in my opinion. If you use Adobe PhotoShop, go to levels and see the right side of the histogram - the peak at the very edge indicates there are whites going over into overexposure (an RGB of 255/255/255 - white).

Your camera records 1/454th of a second? How intriguing. Mine is not that detailed. :D

Great first post. Welcome to NatureScapes.Net!

A great house and nice comp. I'd probably do a substantial crop at the top to get rid of as much white sky as possible and fill the frame a bit more with the house.

Welcome Ethan. This is very nice. I like the colors and the lighting is great. I agree that cropping a little off the top improves the comp and makes the image stronger.

"If these walls could talk!" I am always so fascinated with these little old abandoned buildings. My mind always wonders what stories are in those "4" walls. You have captured a nice shot. I've enjoyed it very much!

Welcome! A really nice first post.

My only suggestion would be to crop off some of the top, to de-empasize the bright white sky.

Thanks, Harvey, and everyone else for you helpful comments. Greg, I'm glad you agreed that 1/454sec was just about right! ;-)

As suggested, here's a cropped version that gets rid of lots of the white sky.

Another option is to go outside the 35mm aspect ratio and just crop a section off the top. I really liked your placement of the shed in the original and its size in relation to the wooded area, and taking a little off the top helps maintain that.
