See...this must be more interesting than my last image. The other one took 24 hours to get one comment. Well either my images are very boring or I'm just wasting my time.

Sorry, I would have posted earlier but was anguishing/crying because of the clouds covering the wonderful northern lights.  And I was rock climbing...

If it takes 24 hours and 42 views to get a mercy crit...this probably is not the venue for me.

FWIW, it wasn't a mercy crit... Did you see the quantity of posts here in the last 24 hours? People may be busy not online... I find that certain times can be slower...?

Harvey,

I don't know about everyone else here but I have been really busy of late. I sneak in here, glance at as many new images as I can, comment when possible, then rush back to work. The lack of comments on your images MAY be b/c you are trying out a lot of new ideas lately. Those images take more time to thoroughly digest than the more straightforward ones. And more time to construct a meaningful critique. I am excited to see you trying such different techniques with your images and don't want you to get discouraged about the lack of comments. I enjoy looking at them even though I don't always comment! Thanks.

Harvey, I check this particular gallery irregularly and not very systematically when I do. But I hear you. It can be frustrating sometimes. I recently posted an image in another gallery that drew only two responses after 24 hours despite receiving something like 75 views. I must confess that it did cross my mind that perhaps I was wasting my time or posting extremely unappealing images or both.

I'm off to find (and comment on) your previous post in this gallery...

I really like the zoom effect on this one. The last one made me dizzy. This close up of MickeyMouse ears could use a slight more exposure to capture the texture.

Personally Harvey, I would crop a little off of the left to draw more attention to the main subject.
Composition looks great still!!!

For myself, I am planning on doing lots of shooting here in the coming weeks and will not be posting that much.
Besides, ..................... I think that another reason for me nost posting much would be the waiting for the fourm to divide into Fauna, then Flora & Macro.
I can't keep up with it now, and some posts that I'm not really interested in that much seems to muddle up my time and I can't concentrate on what really interests me.

And again, ....................... great shot Harvey! 8)

That's exactly like the Northern Lights show that we got here in DFW! Absolutely nothing.

Perhaps a shorter exposure will allow you to better capture the scene, and I do question the aperture you have chosen.

Also, you should crop to 4x5 dimensions since that is the only true way to display photography!

I disagree with Thomas, i think a much longer exposure is in need here Harvey. Kidding of course!!

Hey Harvey, dont take it personally, i get the same deal once in awhile myself. Post an image and it takes forever for someone to comment on it. And usually its one of the regulars that do comment finally.

Remember, theres alot of lurkers here who view and view images for whatever reason and contribute nothing at all imo except to up the view status on your images!!

That said, i did see your last image last night right before i went to sleepytown and was to tired to reply. I do like it very much. Im gonna grab a cup of coffee and comment on it shortly

Sometimes my images stay more then 24 hours and over 70 views without any comments. When this happens I usually try to think that probably they are so perfect that no one find anything to say about it

I know how it feels and I I bump in one of this I always try to drop a line.

Harvery, It is unfortunate that some people like to participate by posting and getting their images critiques , but in turn they do not comment or participate in an active manner, I have to say that they are the few here, for this group to work, or any other group for that matter, all should participate sometimes, time constraints or prior obligations keep me away from the forum often , And yet, many times I succeed in catching up on the list, so many excellent images on all forums almost on a constant basis makes me feel as if I am going down river on a kayak without a paddle, But try I will, many times I am also taking pictures, and this is mostly on the weekends!!, no time to post or critique.
On the other hand , there are many who feel they are not qualified to comment or critique, this is mostly a feeling derived from the fact that they are, or feel they are not accomplished photogs, nothing could be further from the truth in my view, You don't have to be a Picasso to appreciate art, or an expert photog to appreciate an image, Common sense and good taste are things that develop thru a lifetime, the learning is linear if you are interested and want to enlighten yourself.
Also, I can say without any reservations , that I have learned something or other from almost every one here, and from all forums!!!
Now.........
In regards to your image!!, I thought it was a joke, but on further inspection I can see , and ever so subtle, the Owl's outline against the moon, how your were able to superimpose one on the other and maintain a sharp focus it amazing to me, all this on a "B"setting, but what really caught my attention was the horse fly on the edge of the perch, Incredible!! Congrats!!

Interesting...lots of people see the Owl but you're the first to catch the Horsefly.
