African Darter, shot along the Gambiariver, on a boattrip from Tendaba-camp; early morning when the sun was not yet too high (and hot !)

A fine image, Herman!
Good comp and sweet light you got there ...
Perhaps just a slight head turn your way would be even better.

Lovely shot, Herman. I agree that it would be nice to have a slight head turn.

Looks very much like an Anhinga, Herman. Does it swim underwater?

Hi, Sandy,

I haven not seen one of these guys swimming but indeed they look and behave very much like the anhinga's I 've seen in Florida; drying their wings in the same manner;

Very nice!!! As others said, the only thing that could make this better would be a head turn...

Beautiful light and color in this one Herman. Pretty sharp and well composed for hand held! Kenn Kaufman's Lives of N. American Birds says that Darter is a bird family represented in the US by the Anhinga.

Nice image, Herman. I wish only for a slight head turn to bring it up a notch.

Sandy, for all practical purposes, they're basically very similar in behavior as well as appearance. Too much Discovery Channel! :)

I could use a little head turn but the diagonal, color and sharpness are fantastic. Amazing...they do look like the Anhingas over here.
