Taken a month ago at Eagle Beach, north of Juneau. Buffleheads around are are generally very skittish but this fella and his mate let an out of town friend and I approach fairly close. I'm sure I would have ended up with some real keepers but for the fact my guest wanted to see the rest of the Juneau area instead of hunkering down for hours along a glorified puddle waiting for just the right bufflehead pose... :?

Isn't it annoying when you're at the mercy of what your guest wants to do!! I might go a touch lighter - just a touch with this one Joe, a lovely image, great low angle and sweet pose. Nice one!! 8) 8) 8) :D

Good exposure and nicely done, Joe!
Suggest taking a little off from bottom and left ...

The low angle, good exposure and sweet pose, make this a beautiful image. I would be inclined to crop some off the bottom, perhaps half way to the refection. Cool shot! 8)

What kind of friends do you have that wouldn't want to spend hours waiting on a beautiful and cooperative bufflehead? I love the dark BG with this bird....really works well. Not only are they hard to get near...they're also difficult in exposure. You did a great job with both.

On of my favorite subjects. Nicely done head on pose! Love the low angle. I would take some off the bottom too to get the subject off center.

There is so much more in this shot that isn't visible Joe. I've done just a tiny bit of work and sharpened it some:

Particularly special about this one is the head-on perspective. Great job, Joe.

Jope,

Well done. Love EJ's repost. Give your guests a map next time and the keys to the car.

Thanks for the comments, folks.

EJ, I'll have to wait till I get home to check out your repost. On my profiled monitor at home the original post had good detail without being too harsh. The head colors were subtle but there and the background on the dark side but with nice greens and browns. Dunno, maybe I'm having some monitor/eye/lighting wierdness.... I note on my work LCD the image is way too dark. Thanks for working on it!

CHeers!

Edit: I just examined a bunch of images I processed last night and most are pretty dark. I think the explanation is that I was so engrossed in processing the images that I didn't turn on my usual room lighting which screwed up my profile and the images' apparent brightness. Thoughts? A good (but frustrating now that I've got to reprocess them all) lesson.
