While at Estero a few weeks ago, there were tons of these little critters all over the place, but skittish as can be and almost always in groups. On the occasion I saw a sole bird perched on this stone, I managed one (1) shot before it darted away. As evidenced by the blurred leg, it was already starting the process of bolting out of sight. I was fortunate to get this one decent shot.

Shot this on the ground Gigo style (but since I was in the grass, I did not get as muddy as he usually gets  ).

Hi, The bird is a Least Sandpiper. They can be unbelievably tame, probably the best approach is to find a nice spot and sit and wait, they will come close for sure..

Nice shot Mike, although I would try to get him a little off centre and crop some of the right and bottom to balance. Are you sure he's not waving that foot at you? 8) 8) 8) :)

Thanks for the ID. I have a hard time telling these apart from sanderlings.

I was having a hard time trying to find the right crop. it would have been easier if he would have been perched on the edge of the rock...here's another crop with your suggestions. Thanks.

A nice comp. The crop makes it lok like you were even lower. The head is a bit soft from movement.

The repost is much better IMO, just wish the head were not so soft.

The repost is much better but the movement hurts the image for me. You will get him next time.

Like the re-post ...
The head is soft due to motion blur! :(

Repost looks much better. If the head were not blurred it would have been great shot :(

A beauty, Mike. Great perch. The new crop is much better. With the bird parallel to you, f8 at 1/640 would have been even better.
