Juvenile yellow-crowned night heron showing off his big mouth.
Shot a number of years ago at Jamaica Bay in NY.


Nikon F5, 500mm f4P, tripod on Velvia +1.
Early morning natural light. Exposure unrecorded.

The reds and yellows are very saturated on my monitor. Probably early AM (or late PM) light. The image is astounding. You could add a really funny caption to this. That is, if you are in to that kind of thing. Sandy is, I believe, correct about the ID.

Maybe something like this: "Give it to me straight Doc, can the tonsils stay?" :lol:

About the ID, I believe it's a yellow-crowned because of the length of the legs. BCs have much shorter legs.
