I took this one in eastern Washington last June. Took some creeping up on him to get this close, and I initially used the car as a blind. I was on the wrong side though so I got out and walked behind the car as it crept along and then finally I stayed put while my dad pulled the car forward out of the way. Got a few nice shots of this guy in the process. Let me know what you think. Too much post in this one?

Michael,

I agree, too much post. You could try a horizontal crop, with the bottom tight up to say 2" below the top of the post and then add a little behind the tail to balance it out. Great background. Belly looks a little hot but I can see most of the detail so good job on that. Nice head turn and catchlight in the eye. Beak open too :P . Way to go.

Very nice indeed. Thanks.

I like the amount of the post, it is a well-balanced composition. For me it is a tad dark (just the background is a darkish color, bird looks good). Beautiful shot though, and good technique to sneak up on him!

Great to get this guy in the open, especially with the fine bg. The bird is a bit contrasty.
