It was a game of hide and seek in the grass to get a shot of this Wattled Plover, this is what I ended up with.

Canon EOS 20D with 100-400L IS @ 400mm, f11, 1/250sec, ISO 200 with 550EX providing fill flash, handheld.

Happy shooting,

This is a magnificent portrait!! Great details and colors!! I would try to tone down the hot areas on the beak.

Interesting bird! The head is a little hot but not too bad. I would suggest not stopping down as much next time as it brought the background more into focus. At 400mm f-8 would have been more than enough here. Thanks for sharing this cool bird with us!

Very nicely done, I agree with Greg's comments about the exposure and DOF. Great detail here.

Rudi,

This is a great shot. I love the colors and detail you have captured. the head and parts of the beak appear to be a little hot.

Thanks,

Rudi, nice portrait, I like your composition. Agree with Greg's comments about DOF, getting that background softer would make the bird pop more.

A great shot. A bit oversharpened imo.

The plovers we see in North America are so plain compared to the ones in Africa. This is such a bright and unusual looking bird, Rudi. Good detail and composition.

The forehead/crown seems a bit hot but it doesn't bother me much. This is a really cool looking bird. Thanks for sharing it!
