This guy was on the ground digging like crazy. I got in pretty close.
Pretty much a full frame shot, just cropped a tad off the right side.
d70 50-500 sigma , cloned out a few background branches, he was clear from the front.

Nice sharp detail in this portrait. Only wish for a little less busy setting but then, it's good to see them in habitat! Flickers do spend a lot of time on the ground hunting ants.

The bird is beautiful....and this is a habitat he likes. Nice job with a good habitat shot......something I'd like to do more of in the future.

Thanks for the comments.
I was lucky this guy stepped out in the open for even a couple seconds to look around. He was back in a bush digging a whole and throwing stuff around.

This is a cool shot. While the background is a bit busy most of the busiest stuff is in focus also and so it bothers me less. It makes this feel a bit more of an intimate shot I think. Also neat to get one on the ground looking for their favorite food!
