1D Mk II, 500mm F4, shoulder stock, flash
This brown pelican was flying in formation into the late afternoon sun at La Jolla when it popped into a stall as if to land in mid-air, then immediately resumed level flight. A 100% view of the image shows water droplets falling from the pelican - this must be a drying maneuver. I saw about five or six birds out of maybe a hundred doing this and was lucky to catch one at it. George |
