There are Coots everywhere at Santee Lakes, and the only time you pay any attention to them is when you're trying to get them out of the way so that you can photograph the ducks. Well, I guess the holiday spirit was upon me, so I decided to get my one Coot image for the year :)

One of the better exposures I've seen on this species Neil. Plenty of detail in the blacks without blowing the bill. Very nice pose and water.

Very well done, Neil. Definitely a different pose than all of my coot shots. The exposure is perfect.

Nice for all the reasons given, especially the posture. I'd like more room (and a little respect for a proud member of the rail family!).

You got the Coot shot I've been wanting more than a year now -- out of water with full feet view. Nice.
