I have been trying for a while to get a photo of this guy but he is very shy ! I ended up using a Sigma 50-500 with 2xTC to capture this photo, even so I had to crop quite a bit :? Also this combo won't auto focus on the 20D (it does on the 1Dmk2)

Canon EOS 20D (Pre-production), Sigma 50-500 EX @500mm with 2xTC, shutter 1/500, f/11, ISO 200 handheld. Yes, I know I should be using a tripod with this lens/TC but I was still setting up when he appeared  This is the best of 3 frames that I manage to get.

Happy shooting,
Rudi

Nice shot Rudi.
Pretty sharp for a 50-500 + 2x and handheld. Well done.

We saw Slender and White Banded Mongoose most days in Zambia, but they certainly move like lightning!! Lovely little creatures with a lot of heart - especially when they tackle all sorts of nasty things!!

Great catch of this alert pose 8) 8) 8) :)

I don't think I've seen one of these, even a captive one, before. Interesting shot. Would wish for a better background but I'll take it as is :)

Technically very good, especially considering the circumstances.

But compositionally it's not ideal, and as E.J. said, the background isn't great. But for such a rarely-photographed animal, I won't complain too loudly! :)
