Congratulations! This is the Image of the Week selection for the Wildlife Gallery, week ending 27th July, 2012!

I've photographed wolves chasing/hunting elk in Yellowstone a couple of dozen times but this is the first time that I have seen (and photographed) this behavior in my home province.

Wow - that's just terrific. Like everything about it, esp the water churned up behind the elk. Did they catch it? Steve

Fantastic chase scene Doug! Perfect for the pano presentation and the flying water curtain adds so much to the portrayed action.

Nice framing and composition and great action shot! Love the water the elk was throwing up.
I assume the elk got away or you'd have a shot of them bringing her down?

Hi Steve... over the course of an hour and a half, the three wolves (only two pictured above) chased three different elk cow/calf pairs. I left when it started to rain and to that point, all of the elk had managed to escape. To my amazement, I was the only photographer there; my only company was a solo fisherman and a few million mosquitos.
