I'm looking another flash card for my D100. I was wondering if the camera is able to utilize the faster write times of the 40x cards or would a 4x card be just as good? How do the write times of the micro drives compare to the flash cards?

I've been using Ridata & Transcend 512 MB or 1 GB cards. I've been picking them up over time over the last two years. I think they are mostly 30X or 40X cards and both types work very well in the D100. (And the D1H.)

The faster the camera can write to the card, the faster it clears the buffer and the faster you can take pictures. It is very much worth getting a fast card, including the new and expensive Lexar WA cards for the D100.

I do have a single IBM micro drive but I only use it as an emergency backup for when I've totally run out of space. I've never noticed much difference in the speed of that card compared to the others but I think it's actually a little slower. The camera is certainly slower initializing it for use.

Here is a link to the latest performance database for the D100:

http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_ ... =6007-6020

Note that there is minimal improvement for this camera above 24x and some 40x cards are actually slower in the camera than some 24x. The large Lexar Write acceleration cards have particularly poor performance in that camera.

Very interesting. Thanks, E.J.
