Congratulations! This is the Image of the Week selection for the Landscapes Gallery, week ending 27th January, 2012!Mellon Udrigle, Laide, Scotland

My favourite Scottish beach I prefer to photograph it in very flat pre-dawn light and explore the soft hues and tones that make up this delightful coast line one of the few with a mountain backdrop. beyond are the Inverpolly hills of Coigach. The beach with it's red sand and backed by pale dunes generates a salt and pepper texture and this striped section was particularly attractive mimicing the layered clouds above.

NEW!! Photographic workshops and masterclasses and fine art cards are now available at TRANSIENT LIGHT

Pentax 67 II, 90-180 zoom, Fujichrome Velvia
0.45ND grad + Polariser, f/22 at 4 seconds.

Really a fantastic shot - love the multiple layers, the soft light/contrast/colors, the textures and the beautiful comp.

A really fascinating, soothing image....one that I could look at for some time.
It has a CG (Terragen render) quality to it.

This is a really great shot! I love the lines in the f/g sand and the low contrast the scene has over all. The colours are very soothing as well.

Lovely soft pastel colours. Beautiful lines and patterns in the sand. Might want the mountains to be darker and have less of that violet tint to give more separation to the view.

Sublime use of layers. Bet you could get some cool abstracts in the sand alone.

Love the pastel colours and almost minimalistic composition......but it's not 'minimal' at all is it?, because there is a ton to see from top to bottom! and that's the winning element!, it's a stunning wild and barren scene and you've composed this compelling image that's ideal from top to bottom, wicked shot and very well deserved IOTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
