We spent quite a while with a pair of cheetahs that weren't interested in anything other than catching a few zzz's. Then, as the sun started to set - and we had to head back to the lodge - we found a pride of lions that had just finished eating and were less than a mile away from the cheetahs. Suffice it to say that a lot of pixels were used in a very short period of time. This is my favorite from that encounter.

Normally I'll bump the saturation 10-15, but here I didn't make any changes. I'm not entirely pleased with color rendition - it was very, very warm just as the sun set on very, very warm subjects - but nothing I've tried thus far improves on doing nothing. If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate them.

1D2, 500 & 1.4 TC, 1/250 & f6.3, ISO 400.

But this is exactly the right colour tones for them as the sun plummets to earth in Africa Rich!! and boy does it go down fast!!

Lovely catch of these two beauties - and I wouldn't change a thing. Your instinct was so right to leave things as they are. 8) 8) 8) 8) :)

This is gorgeous! Just love the light play and the shadows. Mom looks worried, baby doesnt know any better... Its really nice..One tip for recording late day light accurately is to NOT use autoWB..Leave your camera on the sunny setting..but you probably already knew that... Thanks for sharing some really wonderful photos lately Rich..

Gorgeous image Rich. Just about sums up what Africa's all about. Great light, great subjects and a great place to be :)
