Great White Heron Ardea herodias

Flamingo Gardens in Davie,FL March 20 2003

Canon 1D > Canon 70-200 2.8
1/320 @ F 8.0 Exp. Comp -2/3 ISO 250

This captive Great White Heron has injuries that
prevents it from being released back in the wild.
Flamingo Gardens has a small walk through
aviary that houses an assortment of birds that
are injured and can not be returned
to their natuarl habitat.

Flamingo Gardens allows phototgraphy
in the aviary and you can bring your tripod too.

Great work, Michael. I usually use flash on shots like this, but you did extremely well without it. I like the light coming through the naris.

This would not have worked as well on a darker bird. I may have shot this with some fill and would have ruined it. Great comp and I especially like the light coming through those feathers and bill.

Wonderful for no flash, sharp well composed and nice eye as well, I would Clone the bright/red spots on the right and the Little one on the bottom, Just my taste!! Congrats!! 8)

Wow, that is so nice and natural. Can't get over this was shot in natural light and no flast to brighten the bird...glad you showed this, wonderful image!!! :shock: :shock:
