The reason I just got a 1D Mk II is so next time I'm photographing a Brown Pelican its bill will be about 1/2 to 2 inches into the water surface.

Sweet! Bolsa? Wish it was higher in the frame but the detail on the feathers is awesome.

I'm with Mike on wanting it higher in the frame. But oh my goodness....what a shot.

Incredible shot Steve. Great timing, especially for a D1X.

Incredible action, I remember seeing these diving a many years ago on a vacation in Virginia Beach; the diving was very fast.

Thanks for viewing and you comments Mike. Yes, this was taken at Bolsa Chica last November. They were diving so close to the bridge that I got water drops on my lens. I was also able to switch from my 80-400 to my 80-200 f/2.8. This shot was taken at 145mm so that also tells you how close they were.

Great capture of the action. Just out of curiosity, were you shooting in continuous mode and if you were, what did you get the frame before and the frame after?

Thanks for viewing and your comments Neil. Yes, I was shooting in continuous mode. I checked the original sequence and I don't think any of the shots before or after this one turned out because I deleted them. If they were marginal I would have kept them. The D1X only shoots at 3 FPS so the ones before and after could have been clipped. The other thought I have is maybe this was a single shot still shot in continuous because I was trying to time the Pelican.
