Hi all,

I've been busy out shooting almost daily here in California. The Palo Alto Baylands have become my best friend lately as I attempt to get "perfect avocet shots". I'm still working on getting what I consider to be killer images of the chicks, but I thought this turned out kind of neat. I got this one as it was about to take off..."mid-jump" I guess you might call it. I don't like the fact that the last 1/4 of the wings aren't in focus, but the eye is crisp, and a good section of the wings/body is so I guess one could say the wing blur implies motion. I've been told these are good shots so I kept this..opinions welcome.

Chris, I agree with your own critque. I wish there was a little more room around the bird. Great timing.

I like it a lot. The blurred wing tips are not an issue for this image in my opinion so it is definately a keeper. I might consider cloning out the water spray - It probably looks better at full presentation so this may just be a scaled web issue.

You have captured a great moment here. The wing blur does not bother me at all. Excellent work!

The motion blur on the wings doesn't bother me either. This looks a little oversharpened particularly around the feet area. This is an excellent image. :)

Chris, for perfect feather you must start looking at 1/1000sec SS and above, the blurred wings here are not bad at all, they look good to me!!
Nice capture and great timing as well!!, Congrats!!! 8)

I like it but wish the head was turned a bit and the eye was all the way open. I also don't care for the split background but I'm picky! :)

Chris, The avocet's position and feather details are wonderful !!! I have no problem with the blurred wings whatsoever. 8)

Hey Greg. I tried to bribe the Avocet to do what you asked, but I just couldn't come up with the funds to seal the deal. Any advice on avo-bribes?
