This was taken about 10 days ago in the ruins of Tulum, Mexico. The ruins are what is left of an ancient Mayan city, one of the few (and definitely largest & most well known) built on the Yucatan coast. While not as grand as Chichen Itza, Coba, or many others, the splendor of the nearby Carribean waters makes this place really special and an awesome experience (aside from the joys of photographing in a place like this), if you can get past the crowds.

The site is open from 8:00-5:00, so it's very difficult to photograph the sunrise/sunset light, but the higher the sun rises, the more spectacular the waters of the Carribean are colored. Photographed Tulum in morning, took luchtime dip in nearby cenote (underground/cavernous natural pool), and returned to photograph later in the afternoon...Anyway, this is one of the many shots I took there.

Very dramatic image I would have cropped more from the right to have more of the gorgeous water. Moving left would have solved all compositional problems but probably a helicopter was not handy :D :D

This is a great image, one that you can go back and shoot many times.

Did you go to the water park before Tulum (Escaret?) I found that place to be very interesting with many phot ops

I visited this once, but by boat as I was sailing to Guatemala and we took some time to go through the reef. IT is a spectacular place. When going out against the sun, we erroneously thought we had cleared the reef and then turned south. Fortunately, the bow watch spotted the reef coming up and we stopped in time. After leaving Tulum and its reef, we still had some amazing views.
Thanks for posting this and the memories it brought back.

This is a pretty nice, well detailed and exposed image. There's just the slightest tilt to the left although that might be just a bit of barrel distortion from the WA lens.. Sky is nicely done and using a fast shutter speed brings a lot of power to the waves.

Yes, this is nice. I like the wave action and the blue water.

Very nice dramatic light on this one!
I think if it had a little more depth would be even better.
