So far this D70 is working OK! The magnification factor (1.5x) is certainly a real plus for bird photography. I wish this male Gambel's Quail had turned his head just a bit more toward me but I am pretty happy with this one.

D70, 600mm f/4 & TC-14E, Gitzo, Wimberley

All comments and critiques greatly appreciated. Thanks

What's not to like about this one Alan! you and that camera are becoming quite a team already!

Excellent shot! I might just take a little off the top but sweet as is. 8) 8) 8)

Excellent composition and fine looking bird. I would also take 1/2 to 2/3rds of an inch off the top.

Very nice shot, Alan. I agree about the slight crop from the top, but it's such a nice BG for this bird that I can see why you would want to leave it all in.

Very nice capture!
I wouldn't mind a small crop from the top, but it would be great for a magazine cover as is!

Alan, I forgot to warn you that digital imaging is highly addictive, the D70 is a powerful booster that will push you along this addiction, I just spent the whole morning at Anhinga Trail testing the D70 plus Manual flash (One of Chas crazy ideas), I will post later in the week anything worth while!!, Killer bird that I am lusting after, Congrats!! 8)

Alan, besides the Gambel being one of my favorite birds, you have done a magnificent job on this guy.

The composition is great, focus and exposure appear to be right on and it would be hard to ask for a much better BG.

Nice work.

A nice shot, Alan!

Alex and Alan,
I'm sure there are many people here would like to know how good the Dynamic AF works in D70 when it comes to tracking bird in flight ...
Many Thanks!

I haven't tried any flight shots yet but Alex C is doing that now and here is what he said when I asked him about it.

"For flight shots it is acceptable if good technique is used and a Silent Wave lens is used without teleconverters, otherwise forget it!!"

That said, it is a nicely featured little camera and a great price performer.
