Last Friday during the foggy morning, while most of the birds were gone, I did manage to finally get a clear shot of an adult purple gallinule. This image is a 4x6 vertical crop from a 4x6 horizontal image. I really hated some of the leaves on the left of the bird, so I cropped in close.

Canon Elan7e with Canon 400 5.6L; hh; f/5.6; 1/1000; Kodak Ultra 400UC; cropped in photoshop cs and added a neat image layer to reduce noise. Not sure if I should clone out some of the droplets on the outer perimeter of the ripples....

Pete, The behavior here is awesome. It looks like he's blowing bubbles. It's a little contrasty, and I would leave the water droplets.

Love the colours and looks like a very effective crop. Personally I like images which create a graphic design rather than a portrait of the bird and this works fine for me. Just a little contrasty like Alan said.

I love the action and the crop you've chosen. I'd leave the bubbles. Agree with the contrasty comment and at least to my eye maybe a bit more sharpening. How cool to get such a clear shot of this guy though!

Wonderful composition and very nice colors, slightly over exposure wise, over the ripples and reflection on the water, very nice!! Congrats!! 8)

The composition really stands out and is very unique! Have never seen one quite like this. Feel the image is overexposed by about 2/3 stop.
