Looks like a Semipalmated Plover molting from basic to alternate plumage. I think a little fill flash would have helped make it pop a bit more as well as provide a catch light in the eye. The lifting of the leg out of the muck is a nice catch.

I agree that it looks like a Semipalmated Plover. A catchlite would help bring life to his eye but you already knew that. Very nice image. :)

Bill I need to figure out how to mount my Quantum battery and keep it out of the mud. It was a real mess out there

Alfred, a sweet little bird and a low angle. BG excellent. Indeed it is a Semipalmated Plover. A touch of flash would have provided a catchlight.

 Al this is a very nice image. All has been said--catch light. It's good to see some of us old guys can still get down and use ground pods.

Now you better get back to Anhinga Trail and shoot the Kites before they stop nest building. For the last three days I have been having a ball shooting them in the parking lot near the old oak tree.

Nice composition. I like some highlights on birds; it gives the birds greater form and dimensionality.

Beautiful shot of this sweet bird, perfect DOF and great low angle. Just the eye-light missing to put this one over the top Alfred! 8) 8)

Hi Al,

I'd clone out the dirty bird spot in lower right. A splash of flash would be just the ticket here.

On the Quantum: I'd try to strap it to the foot of the lens and rest it on the ground pod. Who am I to talk, last year at De Soto I had my Quantum half submerged in the N. Beach Lagoon....wadeing belly deep while approaching some Marbled Godwits. An expensive repair for sure!

Well Done!

Thanks for the suggestion Brian, I was thinking of taping it to the Wimberley flash bracket? Yours might work better since it will be lower and the frisbee will keep it out of the mud.

Will check it out in my backyard, hope the neighbors don't see me :)
