Yet another image from my trips to the UP of Michigan this winter. When I saw the beautiful pattern on the back of the males I just knew I had to have an "over the shoulder" pose. Sometimes luck is on your side. I do wish the bird had turned its' head just a couple more degrees towards me but with that no-necked linebacker build that may not have been possible.

Eos 1v, 500mm IS, 1.4x II, Fuji Provia F100 @ 200 P+1. Small crop, top, left and right. A little clone of a sunflower hull dangling from the bill. Dirty bird!

By the way, the BG is composed mostly of shaded snow with some soft light filtering thru in places.

Thanks for looking and for you honest critiques.

BZ

Great colors. If you had to get it from the back, at least it looked around for you, making the shot very nice indeed! The textures are quite interesting and pleasant in this image.

Wowsers, this is nice !

The only improvement I can think of (and it's really a matter of taste) is a little more room all around.

Rear perspective makes the feathering pattern most impressive.

:D :D :D The soft blue BG is wonderful. The bird is very nice, I've not seen one. I like your idea of taking rear shots, some birds have a great deal of detail and colourful feathers on their backs and rumps, which quite often goes unnoticed.

Hi there BZ,

You know I love this one! I'm a huge fan of the "over the shoulder" pose and this bird sure lends itself well to this type of composition.

As posted this image is absolutely beautiful but it still dosen't compare to the sparkle of the slide. ;)

I do love the way the bird has a slightly upturned tilt to his head and your clone job looks perfect!
