Whooping Crane

A pair of these gems was found while out with Jim Neiger the other day. They were actively foraging in a semi swampy area and tolerated us for over 45 minutes coming within 20 feet of us at times. We expected them to fly off but they never did. Purposely I have not cloned out the telemetry or banding. The high grasses hide it well.

10D, 100-400 at 350, ISO200, EV-1, no flash, f8 at 1/1600, full frame.

Wonderful shot - the short DOF makes the bird pop nicely. Nice detail in the whites, and the red crown and eye draw me in.

Great compensatiopn and exposure--I like the way the grassm hides the telemetry stuff. I did not get too these guys in my last trip to the area!
