(Coyote) Bosque de Apache, New Mexico

This is a continuation of my series of images from my two weeks at Bosque. My intent is to make the images flow as though they all occurred during a single day. Of course, they occurred during the two weeks I was there. :)

This is the forty first post of the series. The time is now 13:43 pm.

If you thought the last one was close, I forgot to mention that I got three frames of this coyote. The first one, this one and one where it is trotting away at a pretty good clip. (I won't be posting the last one.)

I tried a bunch of crops on this one and this is the best I could come up with. It is full height and only cropped a tiny bit from the left. I tried a more standard 5:4 ratio and I simply couldn't make it work right. I also didn't really have enough DOF at the distance but I did manage to get one of the eyes and a few whiskers in focus. I guess I should have stopped down some. I'll try and remember that if there is a next time.

Maybe I should have labeled it for the Motif, it is pretty close to just eyes. :D

Window mounted Nikon D1H, 600mm AFS, TC-14EII, ISO 250, Aperture Priority, EV+0.3, 1/1250 @ F5.6.

Wow, that is close! I'll bet you were pretty excited. I wish there was a bit more room on the bottom for its chin.

I like this one better than the last one Tony. I think it has a lot more impact. A crop from the top- to below the ears IMHO makes it even stronger and gets the eyes out of the center of the image as well.

A beautiful, intimate portrait. You succeeded with the crop in my book.

Tremendous impact and the position of the head is just right. You could have done with more DOF but you acknowledge that anyway. A chance encounter well taken.
