Reticulated Giraffe
Captive
EOS3, 300F4L IS, details unrecorded.

This is my friend Gerry :)

We went to South Lakes Zoo whilst on holiday in the Lake District last year. Concentrating on a couple of giraffes near the giraffe house, this guy came up alonside me and poked his head over the fence and sniffed my head. Scared the whatsit out of me  Anyway, we became acquainted over the next few minutes and he let me take this shot just before he wandered off.

BTW, his name's not really Gerry

what a beautiful eye. I always feel like giraffes are the most serene animals out on the plains.

No Karen, they don't spit, but this one kept nuzzling and licking Dave for several minutes!

Great motif shot here, Dave. I really like the composition and how it's so obvious that it's a giraffe even though so little of the animal is shown.
