Waterton National Park is a great place to photograph mule deer during the autumn rut.

If I were shooting this again, I would try to back up a couple of steps, and place the deer's head just a bit to the right - I think it's a bit too centered as it is. The highlights are a bit blown on this scan, but they're okay on the original transparency. What do all of you think of it? :D

Canon T-90, FD 500mm f4.5L lens, Fuji Velvia 50 (400 dpi lo-res scan from my NSCS database - I was too lazy to dig up the original  ). This photo has been selling like crazy the last few months!

I am glad this one is selling well for you and that the highlights are not blown on the scan. the lighting looks pretty tough as posted. It would have nice to get the entire rack in as well but I would be happy to have this in my files-especially if it was selling. Thanks for posting in Wildlife.

Nice capture. It doesnt bother me at all about being centered, I think this works well in vertical format.. If its a great seller, and if you like to spend time in photoshop, you could probably take the end of one of the other horns and shorten the one out of the frame so that it ends before the frame end. Challenging light, especially with the eye on the shadow side. For the conditions, you did well..

What a neck on this non-typical bruiser! I do wish the tip of the one tine that is cut off, was in the frame, but the centering issue really doesn't bother me. Nice pose and good work with the lighting you had

Centered or not, its a nice pose that works well with the framing.

Look at the beautiful coat on this buck. Very thick and fuzzy, very nice texture to see in an image.

I have no problem at all with the crop. My only minor nit (hopefully not repeated too much; I always comment before reading others' comments) is the top antler point clipped off at the top of the image. It's quite fixable digitally. I'd probably clone one of the other tips and just duplicate the background for the rest of the width of the image. Not much work at all.

The background colors do a great job of centering our attention on the animal's face. Great shot!

Other than the clipped antler, it seems fine.
