Natural bridges state park, CA
Canon 10D, EF24/2.8, ISO 100, f/5.6, {1/80s, 1/400s}

This was taken yesterday at Natural bridges state park in Santa Cruz, CA.
Most images of this location are taken to the right of my position here so that the tunnel under the bridge is visible, but I wanted to get the action in the sky here which dictated this position instead. The longer exposure was used for the rock itself while everything else is from the shorter exposure.

The birds you see are mostly Pelicans with a few Gulls here and there. There used to be three bridges here but only one remains due to coastal erosion.

Please hammer on! Any honest critique warmly appreciated. Reposts welcome.

Thanks for looking,

Anders

Nice image with just a hint of light starting to peek through the clouds.

This is a wonderfully dramatic shot.

Very ominous clouds - a cool shot and the Pelicans are a bonus!

I love the way that the rock pops just enough for it to stand out nicely against the darker sky.
Very nice!

Very dramatic, effective image.
If I understood you correctly, this is a composite of two images?

This is a combination of two images of exactly the same scene that only differ in exposure. The rock itself has been exposed 2 and 1/3 stops longer than the sky and the sea. I prefer to think of it as a very powerful dodging...

I'm not sure if this falls under the definition of a 'composite' which I believe implies that two images with different contents were combined, but I'm not sure of the exact definitions here.

Hope this helps to clarify what I did. Thanks for the encouraging comments!

This is very nice, Anders! I can just feel that stormy sea and the leaden sky. I wouldn't want to be those birds!

I really like the stormy mood here. You have exposed it wonderfully with the two images. A longer exposure for the rock would have smoothed out the water ... and it would have lost its turbulent feel. Good thinking and a great photo.

Great dodging! I like your choice of an angle of not showing the opening. It made me want to walk over to see it!
