I don't often attempt to photograph landscapes, but I had to try something with the fires after dark... The current fire situation around Kelowna is absolutely devastating. :(

Wow! The glowing red color of the fire/smoke mix toward the top of the image is unreal...almost looks like a red aurora borealis. Tragic fire, but beautiful image.
Shoot in RAW because memory is cheap, but memories are priceless.

Wow! This is awesome. A difficult thing to capture with a camera, but you've done well!

I really feel for the residents out that way, it must be terrible.
Here's hoping for a few days of good rain.

This is a very powerful photo. It brings tears to my eyes when I think of the devestation that this captures. The light is also so beautiful. I think that's what makes it so powerful.

Hi Cassie. This is an intense and powerful image IMO. I can't image how it must feel to witness such destruction first hand.

Truely amazing! For not shooting landscapes very often, I think you have a winner here. The shutter speed you set did a wonderful job blurring the smoke. Very nice effect.

Oh, my last memories of Kelowna and the Okanagan Valley is one of a deep valley, huge glacier lake, the trees on every hill. Definitely, things have changed.

Cheers

Thank you very much for all the comments! I was very reluctant to post this but a friend encouraged me to do so. I rarely do landscapes so I'm quite shy about showing any of my pictures.

Doug and Karen, I hope your families are all okay. I am safe and not in a danger zone. Thank you for asking. I live in Vernon, which is to the north of Kelowna. I'll keep your family in my thoughts.

Cassie, this is a beautiful image of a horrific event. We had some very devastating fires here in AZ earlier this summer too, I am saddened to see this going on elsewhere now. Don't be afraid to show such dramatic, touching images as this! Thanks for sharing.

Cassie, Thanks for sharing this. It really makes me feel the horror that the people and wildlife living there must be feeling.

Doug and Karen, I hope your families and their homes are OK. Please keep us posted.

Powerful scene. Almost has a surreal quality to it. Excellent image.
