Very nice shot!

I like the way you handled the flash. I can't see it. Excellent. The high BG is nice as it transits from the grey to bright white, which works very well.

Cheers

Just excellent! Great job with the exposure and getting a nice head turn by the bird.

Interesting shot. I wonder if a slight head turn toward the camera would have eliminated the glare on the eye caused by the overcast condition?
Just thinking out loud. Nice shot!!

Dick, though I'm not a fan of high-key images, I like the wonderful detail in the bird. Is the nictitating membrane covering the eye? If not, maybe my membrane is closed.

Welcome back, Sandy.

As for the eye...actually, there was almost no catchlight in the eye but for the flash that didn't seem very flattering. I used the magic wand tool and then brightened it up, perhaps a bit too much.

I think I only got six shots of this bird that I encountered -- literally -- when it flew onto the left outside mirror as I was pulling into the turnout.

I'm with Sandy in almost never liking a white background. But this works for me too (though I think a frame might help separate the image from the nearly white NSN background). The eye looks fine to me--that is the catchlight on an overcast day--though a slight head turn would make a good shot even better. I saw exactly one of these in RMNP, and didn't get a single shot. The ripe cones must have been elsewhere.
