 D1x, 600f4, 1.4x, 1/640, f5.6, slight crop. This shot was supposed to be so easy. "Just drive a little more than an hour north of here to my ranch and you will find a dozen of these little gopher owls!" Well, after 3 trips I came away with just two frames of burrowing owls. Next time I will just drive to Cape Coral. This image was taken late yesterday afternoon. These birds would bob up out of their holes and dissappear as soon as I was discovered. To get this shot I layed quietly behind my camera which was balanced on a bean bag on the ground. This owl emerged about 10 minutes before sunset and promptly flew away. I thought about cropping the foreground but felt that made the image unbalanced. Comments and critiques are appreciated. Jerry Merrell
