(?) Rail
I know for a fact that it is a rail, no idea if it is a Virginia or a King Rail, The size being smaller than a Moorehen indicates she might be a Virginia, then again she might be a juvenile, on the other hand the habitat (Shark Valley) indicates she might be a King Rail and a juvenile at that as well , a Clapper she is not according to Sibley, So here is my predicament!!! A Rail with no first name!!! Sandy and I walked almost a 1/4 mile in SV after this wondering morsel, from the back of the Canal all around the parking lot of the trams and all they way up to the Ranger Booth at the entrance to SV, At times she was just two feet from me and I snapped almost 100 images on a light drizzle and overcast skies, many when she was in the open and I may post those later on, I did learn a couple of things, she feeds on the wet edges and avoids the thick undergrowth in case she needs to flee, she comes out in the open and circumvents those spots , as soon as the marsh open up a bit she goes back in to feed, the other thing is to wear comfortable shoes, when you are following one of these globe trotters, she walks like there is no tomorrow!!! I just wanted to show her feeding in her habitat, up close and personal!! D1x, Raw, Lens=70-200mm afs-f/2.8, FL=105mm, Manual exposure, 1/200sec SS-f/5.6, EV-0, ISO-200, WB=Auto, D-TTL , Any comment and or reposts are always welcome!! Alex Calzadilla
