Taken at DuckShop last February. This RND swam past me and raised his head and showed the chestnut ring that gives this species its name.

Great image Bill, that ring is hard to see. I never could understand why they dont call these birds ring billed except there already is one.

:) :) :)

Great motif idea Bill. This is an effective way to demonstrate field markings that are not as apparent in field guides.

Awesome Bill! I don't think I've ever seen the ring shown this clearly. Sweet image!

Thanks for posting this image. This is the best photograph showing the ring that I have ever seen and have never seen it at all in the wild.

Good shot Bill, it shows the ring very well. Love that pose and it reminds me of the haircut they give new recruits in the army!! :)

Great shot! We seldom see the ring and this image shows it better than most that I've seen.

Bill:

Lovely shot. Was this pic taken with fill flash a la EJ's recent QUACK newsletter? If so, what compensation did you use?

Happy New Year,
Jim

Nope, no flash. This is the result of the light being filtered through the trees.

Thanks for looking and for your comment. :D

Great Motif shot - usually you don't get to see the reddish neck ring.

Excellent field guide type shot. I have rarely seen this and only have one image with the ring showing, though not as good as this one.
