Another falconry bird, this time free flying. I found this harder than it may look, as the handlers have their own idea of how the bird should be flown (low) and there were eight or nine other photographers jostling for position. The background is again the Flatirons Range west of Boulder, Colorado. I bought the 300 f4L IS for this trip, alerted that most other participants would be shooting that focal length for flight shots. Standing behind the crowd in a situation like this would be bad news. EOS-3, 300 f4L IS, 1/750, f5.6 (ambient, set manually), Velvia at 80 and pushed one stop. This is about 75% of the frame--for the JPEG, I cropped habitat like that shown from the top, left, and bottom.

Nice one Cliff, good position and wings are fine. Might clone out the blue sky.

Nice one -- only touch I'd make is to clone the blue in upper left.

Sounds like a tough situation handled well. I would have froze and never gotten a shot! I vote for MORE SKY!

Cliff,

Superb, The colors are most vivid. I like your crop. I assume he has jesses on, but given his pose they would not be seen.

Wonderful shot! You have a much smaller reaction time given the small space and focus of the bird. :) This is pretty amazing, actually. Thank you for sharing.

What a beautiful flight shot. You're right.....definitely not easy to get even when you have one in a controlled environment. I tried for Rob Palmer's hybrid falcon at Bosque when he let him fly. It was like a speeding bullet. You did an incredible job with this one.
