Northern Shoveler Anas clypeata

Another duck from Belmar a few weeks ago. I just can't believe how many and how friendly these ducks are this year.

Exquisitely detailed image, Bill. Tiny sharpening halo on the bill.

What detail! You can even see the strainers in the bill.

Super closeup. I didn't notice the minor halo until I read Sandy's comment, but I sure did notice those comblike "teeth" in the bill. All dabblers have them, and they are most developed in shovelers. But this is the first photo I've ever seen in which I noticed them.

Incredible detail on this portrait Bill. I've never had great luck getting this close to these. The best portrait of one I've ever seen. Gorgeous BG too.

Bill, this is so sweet. The detail is so real. I'd love to see a large file size of this one. Great shot.

Absolutely unbelievable portrait. The light falling on her is fantastic and the detail is off the chart. I am going to sit and study this for a while.

Outstanding shot of a duck that can be extremely difficult to get this close to.

Very nice image! The detail in the bill is wonderful. I've never been able to get close enough to these birds to get anything like this. Thanks for sharing.
