This was taken last winter. I had just placed the blue spruce branch on the deck railing the night before and it snowed over night. With a little hidden sunflower seed the birds were coming into this setup regularly. I think that he was so cute sitting there. I only wish that he had raised his tuft.
EOS 1Ds, 500mm f/4 IS, 1.4XTC, at f/11, 1/160 sec, ISO 200, ff with BB at -1.7Ev. In PS, cropped slightly, levels and USM.

Great shot, Wil. The colors and detail are amazing!! A raised tuft would have blown this off the scale. :)

Thanks for contributing to the Motif.

I like setups that don't look like setups, and this just feels completely natural. It shows the rusty wash under the wing nicely, too.
He would have to put his crest down, wouldn't he? They always have some little trick to foil our efforts. Lower the crest, sit on the other side of the perch, look away from the camera.....

Wil, a very nice photo. A stronger catchlight would make this pop.

Wil,

Great capture. Hope you get a raised crest this winter and use a little more fill.

Wil,

Great shot. Love the sharpness, the detail and the head turn. Maybe this year he will show you his crest.

Terrific shot, Wil. The exposure is 100% dead-on. A raised crest would be icing on the cake.

I love this one. Even though I get frustrated at the snow....it's worth it for shots like this. Here's to a good snow....and a raised crest. Nice shot.

A terrific shot! A raised crest and a catchlight would make this a killer image.

This is a lovely shot of this little bird. I think these are extremely sweet little birds. This image really suits the species. :)
