Shot late in the day, 5:15pm in Samburu Reserve Kenya this is a Juvenile Bateleur Eagle. I wish the perch was better and it was a clear day but not to be. Just wanted to post a shot of a different bird...also looks a little spooky with the cloud and all! 8)

I like that glint in the eye and that stare. I don't know anything about this bird but looks like it could be related to the vultures.?

Don't really know that answer but I don't think so. The adult looks VERY different, I will post a shot of one in 2 days..or whatever the proper time is, I think 2 is it! :?

That is a pretty intimidating little guy. I like the coloring. I think the sky works in your favor here. I look forward to seeing more.

The Old World Vultures belong to the family Accipitridae which also includes eagles. They are not closely related to the New World Vultures and Condors found in North and South America.

I had never seen an immature Bateleur. Find the adult Bateleur a very impressive bird with its beautiful coloration and red beak. This one looks a little on the green side on my monitor. Nice closeup of this bird though.

Dark and ominous George. This guy looks serious and I for one like it, as is!

Very cool to see a juvie. Thanks. When I saw the title I was surprised how different it is compared to the adult, looking forward to the next one.

George:

Very nice subject, the eye contact is frightening, maybe you could recover some detail on the shadows with the H/S tool?

Well if you didn't have another fine trip. The perch if fine with me....and I rather like the lighting that you had. It certainly adds to the mood that is created with this guy's intense look!

Very cool looking bird George! I think this would look nice with some cropped off the top too. Thanks for sharing!

Seen a number of the adults but never a juvenile! What an "evil eye" he is giving you - which fits well with the background sky.
