Well, there are a few American Avocets as well, but they are mainly BN Stilts.

Taken 13 Sept 2005 looking out at the Great Salt Lake in Utah, USA at sunset. Canon 20D, 400mm + 1.4 TC, manual focus, 1/100 shutter, f=22, ISO 200, tripod.

I took several shots experimenting with shutter and aperture but I liked this one the most. The only PS work done is USM, slight correction for tilt, cloned out a few spots coming from the sensor due to the 22 aperture, and cropped a little off of the bottom as there was too much dark area. Those dark things slightly above the middle on either side of the photo are islands. I actually was going to leave about 10 minutes earlier because it was getting dark, then I thought, "I think this is going to make a pretty picture."

I fixed the image display for you, Brian! Just leave out the ''/original'' from your link ...

Love the warm golden color and the mood captured!
Suggest to shave a little off the bottom up to the start of shoreline on the right ...

My goodness

How often I have tried to get a decent shot of this optical effect. I don't know the english expression. The land hovering above the horizon, and in the middle seeing details that are actually behind the horizon as a fatamorgana effect. And YOU have it together with the most beautiful colours and stilts.

I'm impressed! :)
