Shot back in August when out with Jason Hahn on his boat. This is a male Magnificent Frigatebird. Only the male has the red throat patch that is inflated during courtship displays.

Summer is the breeding season and they can be found as far North as the Northern Florida border on the East coast and the Gulf of Mexico on the West coast. During the winter, they move further south.

Besides the group in the Tampa area on a spoils island that I shot this at, I have seen them at Canaveral National Seashore this summer.

I also have a nice interaction shot of two juveniles I will post Friday.

This shot included corrections for highlights on the throat patch as well as desaturating the red to reveal the hidden detail. Underwing had shadow correction to bring out detail as well.

Thanks for looking. Comments welcome.

Thanks for directing me here, althought, how could I miss it, as gorgeous as it is :D :D

I am looking forward to going out with Jason to get these birds, I am thrilled to see them all the time and you know how hard they are to get when they soar high
Will rework mine after I calibrate my monitor and try that desaturation Artie suggested to see how it looks.

This is great, as usual in your work.
Hope we can shoot together again soon :)

Lovely image with a great diagonal comp. Good work to get the detail in the blacks.

Excellent, Robert. Nice work on a difficult exposure. The diagonal composition works really well.
