I have been wanting this image for two years. Still not quite what I envisioned, the background is too dark I think. I should have upped the ISO and cut the ss. However I'm still happy with the budding gorget.

Shortly after taking this shot one hummer flew into my house. He was there less than one minute. As I opened the window he was trying to escape through, he settled down and perched on the sill. I gently picked him up and held him outside where he flew away, seemingly unscathed.

Two years of work paid off, Dan - Congratulations.
Love how the gorget is what my eye goes to first, what you wanted to capture.
I do agree about the dark BG, but still a great shot. Would be tempted to crop a little off the top for composition.

Actually, I find the dark background rather dramatic, and love the capture of the gorget. I think the bird might be set off a bit better if the area around the eye were lightened slightly. Compositionally I think this would be even stronger with the eye on the left (our left) at the top left "rule of thirds" point. Both things are easily done in post processing if you are so inclined.
