Many thanks to Alan Melle for his local knowledge and willingness to share it with a fellow NSN'er. We had a great time shooting the Pied-Billed grebe chick (see Alan's earlier post), but there was lot's of other interesting activity in the area as well. This Osprey shot was taken on the way out after calling it a day. At 9:50am the sun had gotten harsh but I couldn't resist as I had no idea what the prey was. I now believe it is a Tiger Salamander, but am not completely sure.

Nice work, Larry!
You did well with the light. Could be sharper ...

Great shot of this guy with its prey Larry!! When I first looked I assumed it was a fish but I think it is a salamander. My only nit is I like salamanders. :(

Real nice. COntrast controlled well so if you had harsh light, its not evident here.

Great shot, Larry! Obviously I left too soon as I never saw the Osprey at all. Given the tremendous number of bull frogs that were there I wouldn't be surprised if the prey here isn't one of them. Your shot of the grebe chick is better than mine and you ought to post it. Glad you enjoyed the area!
