Northern Mockingbird on Bio Lab Rd. in MINWR.

Comments welcome. Thanks for looking.

P.S. I originally ID'ed this as an Eastern Phoebe incorrectly. Alan Murphy kindly corrected me. Thanks Alan.

Never seen one of these before. Nice shot.

I like the way the plumage is being buffeted by the wind.

Alan,

I know that you are real good with these types of birds and I struggled with the ID for over two days as I initially thought Mockingbird. After watching him for awhile in the field, even the calls/song weren't what I have come to know from Mockingbirds and since I am surrounded by Mockingbirds here in Florida, this one decidedly looked different to me.

I am going to investigate this further and revise as necessary. Thanks for the help.

----------------------------- Follow-Up on ID -------------------------------

Well Alan, I am inclined to agree with you on this not that I had much doubt of your ID. The Stokes Guidebook I have really doesn't have a good picture of one as every other pic I found on the net does not look like the one in the Stokes book.

Since the Eastern Phoebe winters in Northern FL, it may be too early for them. What really throw me here is the coloration on the chest as I have not seen that before.

I visted the Patuxent Bird Identification InfoCenter site at http://www.mbr-pwrc.usgs.gov/Infocenter/infocenter.html (Credit: Gough, G.A., Sauer, J.R., Iliff, M. Patuxent Bird Identification Infocenter. 1998. Version 97.1. Patuxent Wildlife Research Center, Laurel, MD.) among other resources including the Percevia site at http://www.percevia.com to help in ID'ing the bird.

Well now I have a good Mockingbird shot that I did not have before. THis guy really looks very different, at least to me, then the ones around my neighborhood. Thanks for the help on this Alan. I am learning more every day.
