Pied Kingfisher, Ceryle rudis, female, Pirang, The Gamdia, Dec 2004, 1dmk2 +1.4x +400/5.6, handheld, 6.8/8.2MP crop for positioning

Another one from The Gambia. Again from Pirang, which is an excellent place for bird photography. Another shot with conversion problems. Colours either too warm or not realistic. Just added some blue with colour balans in PS, which shows now a bit in the shady part of the tail...

I hope you like it.

Any comments good and bad to make me learn are very welcome.

Peter

Hi, Peter , just got back from Gambia! Yes, Pirang seems to be a great place for photography in dec. but now almost all the pools had dried up;
I like the hovering pose very much ! the blues can indeed be very difficult in the harsh daylight but you managed it very well i.m.o.;

Awesome shot Peter. There's a bit too much Cyan in the image. If you take the white eye dropper from Curves, with a value of 250 and click on the whitest part of the bird, it will adjust it to the right blue.

A terrific shot, Peter!
Like the framing with lots of room for him to make the dive.
I'm with Alan on the color cast ...

Great capture. I really like the pose and -ve space below adds the idea of high flying.

BTW, 1D Mk.2 really makes in-flight shots easier. No offense, just curious.

Thanks Alan, I'll give it a go.

Griffin: Not really. I was used to the eos3 which is quite excellent for flight shots. The gain is in the digital part. You know the shot is well exposed and you know you won't blow away a couple of films when holding the shutter button down.

Really nice. I like the placement high in the frame for this hovering bird.
