Taken with a Nikon D1X
1/250
F7
Aperture Priority
ISO 200
Mikon 600mm F4

This was my first experience photographing the whooping crane. In 1941 there were only 15. Now the total is higher and there are about 20 in the Lake Kissimee area. They are in other areas as well and the number has grown. It is a real privelge to see these beautiful creatures.

All comments are greatly appreciated.

Nice pose and good job on exposure, Judylynn. The eye appears a bit soft; maybe a touch more USM.

Hopefully there come back will be as successful as the Bald Eagle. Too bad about all the leg bands but its an excellent shot!

Lucky you to see this one. Nicely composed and a good pose on the bird. A touch of USM and maybe a bit more contrast would make this sing.

Just a spot more contrast/saturation to pop the bird more from the BG, but beautiful shot and perfectly exposed Judylynn. The head turn and eye contact are the icing on the cake. Nice one!! 8) 8) 8) 8) :D

I'd love to see one of these guys....leg band and all. Nice image....just needs a little boost in the contrast and/or saturation as has been stated.

A nice shot, judylynn!
Some mid-tone adjustments would restore the color saturation and contrast in this one ...

Nice shot, Judylynn. I live within 25 miles of the majority of the winter Whooping Cranes, and do I have a shot anywhere near this nice? NO!

Judylynn,

Very nice shot. You did a great job with the exposure. I like the suggestion of adding just a little more contrast.

Those leg bands serve a very important purpose, which I'm sure you know. The radio transmitter one is quite expensive. The state fish & game department is doing mallard hens in Arkansas with something like these transmitters and they may well demonstrate data that will end up saving LOTS of ducks lives. Sure hope so anyway. Great image. Thanks for sharing with us.
