I discovered a roost site where feruginous (sp) rough legs, common rough legs and redtails hung out. Probably 40 to 50 birds there at one time. I found it on my last day traveling and couldn't spend much time there due to failing light and very cold hands. The image prints nicely but I can't seem to get any punch on it on the web. Western Nevada, very cold winter sky, Canon 20D 100-400 at 400mm, Iso 400, f5.6 1/640 sec., minimal crop...Thanks for looking.

Nick, the lookback makes the shot. Very nice.

I can see how the detail in the head would come up great in a print. What if you were to give it a tighter crop to show off the bird more, perhaps even on a more pano crop so that you could post a wider image?

I really like the look back on this, Nick. There seems to be pretty good detail. Maybe you could get it to pop a little more by selectively toning down the background? In any event I think its a cool shot.

Nick, love the colour and wing-spread. It might pop more at this size with some selective sharpening of the head. In fact, try the a touch more USM overall first and go to just the head if the overall is too much. Great find.

Very coolshot Nick. Love the colors on this guy, and of course the lookback is amazing.

Nick, I do love the look back but it does seem to need to be tighter to get that ferrugy stare. Still a really nice shot.
