These owls are very fast and I find them difficult to get flight shots. We have had sun only one day since this bird arrived in my area on January 1st. Shooting at 800 ISO has proved the only way to get anything useable. The tertiary feather sticking up flapped around for several days.

1DMKII, 100-400 @ 190, 1/640 @ 6.3, ISO 800, manual Exposure, handheld. Cropped and a couple of grass stems cloned.

Comments and suggestions welcome.

Awesome shot, Eleanor!
Would suggest to go a little darker and those intense eyes would just glow ...

They may be fast but you sure did good with this one. ISO worked well here. Here's hoping that you get one sunny day....soon. I know how you feel!!

This is excellent. I like the light bouncing underneath the bird and making it stand out from the bg. Love those intense eyes.

Very Nice!

I would have done just about anything for a 1D2 and a fast-focussing zoom this weekend. Those NHOs were incredibly fast!

Those yellow eyes are wonderful. They just glow and really make the bird jump out. I might clone out the feather for web use. Great shot Eleanor.
